Today we wanted to have some Dim Sum after suffering withdrawals after 3 weeks without. There are only 2 Dim Sum restaurants in Tucson, and we chose the one with the better online ratings. Were we ever disappointed! The selection was poor, the service lacking, and the prices enough to anger Marlene (who as we all know is tough to anger). We were enticed (actually nagged) by the waitress to order the seasonal snow pea greens. "velly healthy, velly delicious". Well we got a huge heap of greens alright, and the price on the bill: $14.95. WOW. We complained about the price, to no avail. Told them we won't be back, they just shrugged. So much for that place.
After that experience we needed some spiritual reinforcement, so we decided to go and visit the Mission San Xavier, located just south of Tucson on an Indian reservation. The church was quite impressive, and well preserved since its construction in 1692. After touring the mission and attached museum, we went to one of the food stalls in the parking lot and had an Indian fried flat bread. Yummy!
Next we visited the Crafts Market at the mission, and met a silversmith/ actor who showed us his album of photos of himself taken on various movie and TV sets with actors like Keifer Sutherland, Emilio Estevez, Melissa Gilbert, and many others. He played in over a dozen big box office movies. Quite an interesting guy.
We left the mission and headed further south to Green Valley. There we visited a decommisioned Titan 2 missile silo with attached museum.
We have to return our rental car tomorrow, and our Echo is delayed (again), so we'll be car-less for a couple of days. We hope to visit Mexico next weekend, and start looking at places to stay there.
