Yesterday we went to the coast. Marlene packed a light lunch, and we headed up the Ortega Highway (CA74), a VERY winding mountain 2 lane that twists and climbs its way over the mountains from Lake Elsinore to San Juan Capistrano. We started out at Capistrano Beach, a nice stretch of beach south of Dana Point. After a nice walk along the seafront we enjoyed our lunch of chicken sandwiches and kosher pickles, then drove south to San Clemente, where we visited the beach and the pier, and spent some time watching the surfers perform.
After the beach, we walked back through San Clemente and visited the farmers market stalls. Lots of expensive "organic" veggies and fruits. After our long walk we were all beat (even Ben), so we made the 45 minute drive back over the mountain to Lake Elsinore.
It was a nice day, and it felt good to see the ocean. Pictures above are of Lake Elsinore (and our RV park) from the top of the mountain, beach and pier scenes.
